PRICE

There are nine (9) prizes worth approximately $12,000 CDN each to be won. These are distributed as follows:

  • Canada – Quebec (excluding CRDA): 5 winners
  • Canada – British Columbia and Alberta: 2 winners
  • France – ATS (including CRDA): 1 winner
  • Iceland – ISAL : 1 winner

Each prize includes a seven (7) day business trip to London including travel, in the spring of 2024, with the option of being accompanied. This is an all-expenses paid trip, with the exception of extra luggage fees, as well as purchases and activities during free periods, which will be at the employees’ expense. The prize must be accepted as awarded; it is non-transferable, non-cashable, and no substitution is possible. Winners will be compensated according to their normal working hours.

Accompanying persons are the winner’s choice, but must be 18 years of age or older. They must have a valid passport and be able to fly and travel to another country. Under the tax rules for each winner, the amount representing the cost of the trip enjoyed by the accompanying person will be considered a taxable benefit and will therefore be added to the winning employee’s income for the year. This represents a taxable benefit of approximately C$4500. The value of the business trip for the winning employees is not a taxable benefit.

Prize winners will be selected in random draws (one draw for each of the three stages) held in-house in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec, Canada) by the people in charge of organizing the Contest, under the minimum supervision of an administrative resource and a member of management. Prints will be filmed for reference and provided upon request by writing an email to RioTintoCommunicationsSaguenay@riotinto.com. The draw for the first stage will take place on May1 at 13:00 (UTC-04:00). The one for the second stage will take place on May 17 at 13:00 (UTC-04:00). The one for the third stage will take place on June 5 at 13:00 (UTC-04:00).*

Winners will be contacted by a Rio Tinto resource in person during business hours or by email, before June 22, 2023. If a winner cannot be reached between June 6 and June 18, his/her entry will be void and another eligible entrant will be selected.

If the selected entrant does not comply with all of the terms, conditions and commitments of the Contest, his/her entry may be void, at Rio Tinto’s sole discretion, and Rio Tinto shall have the right to select another eligible entrant from the remaining valid entries. Rio Tinto is not responsible if the potential winner is not contacted, whether or not due to human error. After being declared a winner, the selected person will receive instructions on how to proceed.

The odds of being selected depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period. Based on the number of prizes offered, semi-finalists will have a 1 in 20 chance of winning, and finalists will have a 1 in 10 chance.

The names of the semi-finalists, finalists and winners will be shared via internal emails to all relevant employees and our internal social networks.

*Modification as of May 10: Due to a specific Rio Tinto vacation in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, the draw scheduled for June 5 will be moved to June 2. This change has no impact on employee participation or the release of finalists.
